This gorgeous 1950s Stratton compact, looks lightly used. It's lid is decorated with a textured gold foil or paper, with an image of a cruise ship printed on the celluloid top layer. This three funnelled ship was originally built in 1930, and named the Empress of Japan. During WW2, it was re-named The Empress of Scotland, and carried troops before becoming a trans-Atlantic passenger ship (1942-1957). The gold tone base is decorated with a simple core spiral design, dating the compact to the early 1950s. The inner lid is inscribed with the Stratton "compact in hand" logo. "Made in Stratton England" is engraved on the mirror frame. This compact has its powder sifter and puff, and also has a pouch and box.
