This gorgeous emerald green maxi dress probably dates to the late 1960s or early 1970s. It is by Jean Varon aka British designer John Bates. This sleeveless dress has an empire line shape with a deep frill around the neckline and hem. The dress is fully lined and fastens with a long metal zip at the back. The quilted skirt begins under the bust. The label reads, “Jean Varon, made in England, remove trimmings, dry clean, size 14”.
This vintage size 14 is suitable for a modern size 10, or 8.
🔸This Jean Varon dress is in very good used vintage condition.
🔸The metal zip works as it should.
🔸The stitching and fabric is strong, with one or two areas of broken stitching to the back of the quilted skirt. Please see the photos.
🔹There is and area of broken stitching to the hem. Please see the photos.
I have taken flat measurements, and doubled them to give approximate bust and waist measurements for this dress. To avoid disappointment, please compare these measurements with a dress that fits you well. The mannequin is a UK size 10
BUST 34" or 86.5cm
Under BUST 32" or 81cm
Nape to hem 52" or 132cm
